There are many pain killing treatments for migraines, but do they really work? What is the best way to manage your migraine headaches?

There is no simple solution to migraines, but you can monitor and manage the symptoms of migraine headaches.

Before you start you need to know what these symptoms are. Below is a list to help you identify the areas you should monitor to better understand the symptoms of migraine headaches.

1. The head. This may sound obvious, but every migraine sufferer has different symptoms. In many cases the headache is the last symptom to appear. If you find this is your final symptom, then with the correct pain management and relaxation techniques you may be able to reduce or even avoid this symptom.

2. The eyes. Many people are aware that migraine sufferers often see ‘spots’ in their vision. This is a simplification of what is happening. The affect on the eyes can be blurring of peripheral vision and can also be the only symptom of a migraine headache. Some sufferers of ocular migraines find that their migraines are based entirely around the eyes and their vision.

3. The digestion. Migraines are often associated with nausea, vomiting and indigestion. It may vary as to whether this is a result of the pain of the migraine on the body or is an independent symptom. Which ever it is it needs to be managed and controlled as best as possible.

Once you have clearly identified the form of your migraine then you can start to manage the pain and to work out the triggers of your migraines.

Pain management is important in the successful handling of migraines; however, identifying your migraine triggers is a better long term solution.

The triggers of a migraine are defined as the circumstances which induce your migraine. Recognizing your triggers means that you may be able to avoid them. Triggers can come in all shapes and forms. A trigger can be environmental, for example noise or light. Other triggers can be more chemical based, many people believe that there migraines are caused by certain foods and drinks such as dairy and caffeine.

Recognizing Tension Headache Symptoms

The cause of tension headaches and their symptoms are often confused with migraine headaches. This can result not only inappropriate or ineffective treatment but it could also cause additional symptoms or medical issues to be unresolved. If recurring, tension headache symptoms, can be a sign of a serious medical problem. If the cause of tension headaches is unknown and with the serious tension headache symptoms, a dangerous situation can result if care is not taken to find the source of the headaches.

Types of Headaches and Symptoms

Other types of painful headaches include migraine headaches. Migraine symptoms and medical treatments for migraines are much different than for tension headache symptoms and confusing the two types can result in the wrong medication. Other symptoms associated with either headache condition can go unresolved if not appropriately diagnosed.

The cause of tension headaches and their symptoms can be much different than the source and symptoms of migraines. A migraine headache generally feels like pulsating pain that comes and goes over a period of time. Tension headache pain is often a continuous, relentless pain. Tension headache symptoms have been described as feeling like there is a belt wrapped around your head squeezing tighter and tighter. This feeling is driven by the muscles around your skull contracting and restricting blood flowing to your brain.

If left untreated, tension headache symptoms can become very dangerous. Traditional migraine symptoms occur only on one side of your head and generally do not feel as if they are affecting your entire head.

What Causes the Pain and How Do I Make it Go Away?

Tension headaches are brought on by the muscles near your skull contracting. This is typically in reaction to other muscles, particularly in your upper body, becoming tense and also contracting. If your entire upper body feels tense and stiff, it is impossible to feel comfortable enough to relax. Eventually you begin to feel intense pressure in a part of your head that begins to move around your skull until your entire head is encircled.

There are some cases when excessive chocolate, caffeine or sugar consumption and even smoking can be a cause of tension headaches. Excessively concentrating on something like books or computer screens has also been known to be a cause of tension headaches. Even exposure to the cold can be a cause of tension headaches.

One a simple way to relieve a tension headache and is to remove the tension. Consider taking a little time for yourself in a quiet area. Or try and use music for a relaxing ambiance. Some people also find massage therapy a source of tension headache relief. If you find the cause of tension headaches may be something that you cannot remove from your life, such as working on a computer, consider reducing the amount of continuous time spent working with taking small breaks. A last option for treatment of a headache should be prescribed drugs especially if the cause of tension headaches has not been identified. However, sometimes medication is necessary to maintain normal daily function.

Ways To Relieve Sinus Pain And Pressure

We have all had those mornings when you wake up and feel as though your sinuses have been filled with cement and moving your head causes shooting pains across your face and down your neck; this is a classic description of sinus pain and pressure. The pain can be so intense that it is mixed up with a migraine headache.

sinus pain and pressure is usually a sign of an infection. The headache is often concurrent with a general feeling of ill health as well as possibly a cold, cough or raised temperatures. There can be a greenish yellow discharge from the nose, which is the infection coming out of the sinuses. sinus pain and pressure and migraine pain may both increase if the patient bends over or leans forward, however, normally sinus pain and pressure will not increase with bright lights, but a migraine will get worse. Also sinus pain and pressure will be relieved with gentler medication which will have little or no effect on the pain of a migraine headache.

sinus pain and pressure is usually from an infection, cold or influenza, however, may also be the result of a growth in the sinus cavity or a change in the atmospheric pressure. The sinus pain and pressure can be caused by allergens as well as infection; this occurs when the person is allergic to something, such as dust or pollen and on inhalation of the allergen the sinus produce mucus which causes the sinus headache. The other possible causes of sinus pain and pressure are polyps, this is a type of growth, and can be treated by your doctor. If the growth of polyp is linked to an allergy, with removal of the allergen the polyp may reduce by itself.

Although most sinus pain and pressure can be relieved either through change of environment or over the counter pain relief there are circumstances in which a doctor should be consulted. If the pain is accompanied by raised temperature, redness around the eyes, stiffness in the neck and/or shoulder area or disorientation medical assessment is advised as there could be other problems.

What medical tests will be carried out if you have recurring sinus pain and pressures – well, it is possible that you will be sent for a CT scan. This is to establish if there is a blockage in the nasal cavity. Depending on the findings of the CT scan surgery may be recommended to remove the blockage as this could result in an immediate solution to recurrent sinus pain and pressure.

If you only suffer from minor sinus pain and pressure then you may find that flushing your nasal passage with a saline solution will clear the mucus and relieve pressure almost immediately. Sometimes the natural solutions are forgotten and pharmaceutical pain killers are used instead. It is only logical to try to clear the mucus instead of numb the pain …. Remember that sometimes the solutions can be simple.

Symptoms And Sinus Headache Relief

Have you ever woken up feeling stuffed up and experiencing pressure behind your eyes and cheekbones? If so, you may have been suffering from a sinus headache. However, the symptoms of this type of headache are often mistaken for a migraine headache. While the pain is often less severe than that of a migraine headache, some of the other symptoms overlap. This can make it difficult to diagnose the real problem, so that you can begin the sinus headache relief.

If you are suffering from a sinus headache, you may also experience fatigue, fever, cough, and a pale yellow or green nasal discharge caused by sinusitis. While a migraine often gets worse if the person bends forward or is exposed to loud noise and bright lights, sinus headaches do not always have these problems. sinus headache relief is often effective with over the counter medications. Sinus headache medications are available at your local pharmacy that attacks all of the common symptoms.

Often, sinus headaches are caused by a different problem, since as a cold, flu, or infection of the sinus cavity. Changes in atmospheric conditions can also cause pressure to build in the sinus cavity, triggering a headache. Allergens, such as dust and pollen, can accumulate in the sinuses and nasal growths, like polyps, can be causes as well. If you find yourself suffering from these headaches regularly, discuss the problem with your doctor so he or she can help you with sinus headache relief.

Medical Intervention In sinus headache relief

If you find that you have redness near your eyes or a low fever accompanying your sinus headache, you should contact your doctor. These can be symptoms of more serious ailments, which can also cause a stiff neck or confusion. If headache symptoms persist for several days, despite attempts at sinus headache relief, you should make sure to seek immediate medical care. It is better to err on the side of caution and contact your physician if anything seems out of the ordinary.

For proper sinus headache relief that reoccur, you should have medical testing done to rule out the possibility of fungal or bacterial infections. It is possible your doctor may also want to perform a CT scan to check if the nasal cavity is at all blocked. If there is an interruption in your mucus passages, it can cause frequent sinus headaches and may require surgery to alleviate the problem. No other sinus headache relief will be effective if you have this type of problem.

sinus headache relief, even using simple over-the-counter medications, should lessen the symptoms and occurrences of these headaches. Clearing sinuses can be aided by decongestants, pain relievers, and saline nasal sprays. However, as with all medical treatments, you should pay attention to the directions of your doctors and be aware of the possible interactions with other medications.

Facts About ocular migraine symptoms
An ocular migraine is also known as an Acephalalgic migraine headache. It is a neurological syndrome with most symptoms involving visual abnormalities that are often accompanied by ocular migraine symptoms, nausea and vomiting. This condition is also commonly manifested with heightened sensitivity to light and to various sounds, particularly when ocular migraine symptoms are in its earliest stages of development.

Classical Migraine History
A typical characteristic of an ocular migraine is the frequency with which it affects those who have exhibited classical migraines. Often it is a normal occurrence for ocular migraine patients to experience symptoms for up to a week, and then experience no further episodes for months. Symptom length can vary, sometimes fifteen to thirty minutes in length.

ocular migraine symptoms often originate from vascular spasms. The ocular blood vessels supplying blood to the patient’s brain including its centralized vision center is impacted when the spasms occur. This is the source of some headaches known for inciting the ocular migraine symptoms, nausea and vomiting symptoms. Exact origin for the headache pain has not been determined.

It is sometimes very difficult to correlate how ocular migraine symptoms can be generated from stress or the use of oral contraceptives and even premenstrual hormonal changes. The large variance in headache sources makes it even more difficult to pinpoint eye headaches, especially if the onset of your headaches is relatively new. Alcohol consumption is an additional source that can generate ocular headache pain. Chicken liver, red wines, chocolates and unpreserved meats are lesser known triggers of ocular migraine symptoms.

Symptoms of ocular migraine symptoms
Common symptoms experience by sufferers of ocular migraine headaches can include unusual sensations impacting vision. These sensations can result in normal vision paths being blocked during a migraine spell. When ocular migraines are in their earliest stages, visual disturbances affecting a peripheral vision is common in patients. Jagged, shimmering or semi-circular pale pastel color lights are symptomatic features of ocular migraine symptoms as well. As the migraine begins to develop, temporary vision loss or impaired, patchy vision can occur. As the migraine progresses over the next twenty minutes, the vision loss can migrate to zigzag patterns moving in and out of a person’s line of sight, eventually leaving altogether and return vision to a normal status.

Treatment for ocular migraine symptoms is not always required. Receiving a doctor’s diagnosis is important to ensure there is not a major blood flow issue contributing to your pain. Blood flow constriction would require major intervention and not simply pain relievers. If the headache pain truly becomes unbearable, prescription pain relief can be effective for managing the issue. Controlling ocular migraine symptoms and the symptoms accompanying them is possible through diet and behavior changes for the most part. However, there are times when despite preventive efforts, the painful ocular migraine symptoms occur and should be managed appropriately.

Discussion Of Some Of The Wide Range Of Migraine Headache Triggers

When we hear about migraines it is usually only the very severe and debilitating conditions which we read and hear about, however, occasionally people do suffer with migraine as a mild condition, this does not necessarily make the migraines less frequent, but more irritating than crippling. The most common recorded migraines are the more debilitating ones.

After years of research there is still no know and established cause for migraines. The scientists have however established that there are migraine headache triggers. To complicate the issue migraine headache triggers are dependent on lifestyle of the sufferer and the environment they live in. Because of this controlling the migraine is dependent on the sufferer from learning and understanding their own migraine headache triggers. Once they have learnt these migraine headache triggers they will be able to better manage their condition.

One of the most prevalent migraine headache triggers is loud noise and bright lights. These seem to cause some form of sensory overload which activates the bodies defence mechanism which creates a headache which will remove the sufferer to a more comfortable environment. These headaches have been recorded in teenagers at nightclubs, where the migraine headache triggers are very extreme, for these sufferers a nightclub can become a personal hell. Equally, these can develop in people who work with noise, for example people in the construction industry have been recorded as reacting to loud noises.

When we eat, the process of digestion causes a chemical reaction, and these can sometimes be migraine headache triggers. One of the most common food migraine headache triggers is dairy products. Cheese has long been associated with nightmares and allergies but for migraine sufferers they cannot have any dairy, including milk and ice cream! Chocolate is also a migraine headache trigger, obviously some chocolate does contain dairy which can be a problem, but even dairy free chocolate can be a trigger for some sufferers.

Alcohol and smoking have also been documented as migraine headache triggers. With the added problem for smokers that some of the treatments seem to be less effective on smokers.

Rather bizarrely there seems to be growing evidence that bad posture can also be a migraine headache trigger. This is also linked to damage to the nervous system as a result of curvature in the spine caused by the poor posture of the patient.

If you are sufferer of migraines it is worth documenting the situations when your attacks occur and then trying to establish and eliminate the migraine headache triggers. This is the most effective way to manage your condition and in the long term will prove more effective than any medication. However, as with any recurrent illness you should regularly discuss your symptoms with your general practitioner to ensure that you are getting the best treatments and that you are up to date with any changes in treatment of the condition.

Explaining Migraines

Migraine headaches can be one of the most painful and frustrating types of headaches to get. Generally, they are the result of a trigger or condition that allows the headache to make its appearance. They not only include excruciating pain, but can be accompanied by nausea and sensitivity to light. Migraines are elusive and the exact causes behind them are unknown. Medical researchers have convincing theories as to how these headaches are caused but nothing is certain.

However, migraine headache treatment is very successful. A variety of options have been developed to help sufferers of frequent migraines find comfort and the ability to live a normal life. Some migraine headache treatments are only performed when the headache appears, while others are used as a preventative migraine headache treatment for those who suffer from regular migraines.

While the exact source of migraine headaches is unknown, researchers do know what areas of the brain the pain comes from and have developed a list of some potential triggers of migraines. It is thought that migraines occur when a chemical imbalance in the blood stream and vessels around the skull allows them to expand or contract. This would not only cause extreme discomfort, but some of the other typical migraine symptoms. The brain is not affected by this pain, only the skull and its elements.

As these blood vessels expand or contract, the nerve endings and muscles in the area will react. This is what causes the pain to be felt. Traditionally, migraine headaches only affect one side of the head but the intense pain can make it difficult to localize. The pulsating pain can continue for a long period of time if not combated with a migraine headache treatment.

Multiple Types Of Migraine Headache Treatment

It is important to have a doctor diagnose your migraine headaches, because patients often cannot properly recognize them. While all the causes may not be known, doctors can still diagnose them and administer migraine headache treatments. If you are an infrequent sufferer, your doctor will most likely prescribe pain killers and anti-inflammatory medications which will reduce the effects of a migraine attack.

As soon as you feel a migraine beginning, you need to take the medicines prescribed as migraine headache treatment. Most medications need about thirty minutes to begin working, and it will help if you can maintain a relaxed state. If possible, lie down for a short period of time after you take the medications.

The second type of migraine headache treatment is ongoing and preventative treatment for patience suffering from recurring migraines. Life can become difficult with this condition, as patients range from suffering several migraines a month to several migraines a week. The migraine headache treatments most often used in these cases are regular doses of certain drugs. While they may not completely eliminate the condition, it will reduce the effects enough to live life.

Migraine Relief Choices

Sufferers of migraine headaches know that an episode can completely ruin a day. Finding migraine headache cures is a crucial step for living a normal life. It is important to learn about the causes and effects of migraine headaches and find suitable migraine headache cures. Also, eliminating triggers can help you prevent migraines before they ruin your life. The first step is to understand what causes your migraine headaches, and then you can start to consider migraine headache cures and other migraine symptoms.

While research is not definitive, the current theory suggests that migraine headaches are caused by blood vessel enlargements, which in turn cause the nearby nerve cells to release certain chemicals which cause the inflammation and pain. Frequent bouts of migraine headaches can also have a genetic component, although this is not always the case. Research is just beginning to scratch the surface at understanding the causes of migraines and finding migraine headache cures.

Common Treatments

One of the most common migraine headache cures, particularly migraine relief, comes in the form of medication that is used to control the neurotransmitter dopamine. However, you should be aware of side effects that are possible with these medications. Among the common medications are beta blockers, tricyclic antidepressants, calcium channel blockers as well as anticonvulsants and even serotonin antagonists and NSAIDs as well as monoamine oxidase inhibitors.

It is possible to become overly dependant on these medication migraine headache cures, though they do provide excellent relief and are widely used. The popularity of such medicines comes in waves as people change their perceptions about the benefits and disadvantages.

There is also a wide array of natural remedies available for migraine sufferers to relieve their pain. These migraine headache cures have hardly any unwanted side effects, so patients can feel secure in their efforts. By using natural techniques and ingredients, you can control the painful inflammations with a much lower risk to yourself.

Using natural migraine headache cures and other migraine symptoms is a great way to stimulate your body’s natural pain management systems and responses. Your brain will naturally release chemicals that help you feel less pain, in a very subtle, natural manner. Letting your own body do the bulk of the work is the best way to ensure your health will not be compromised because of your migraine headache cures.

When it comes to migraine headaches, the one thing that is certain is that millions of people suffer from the problem every day. Finding relief that is fast and effective is urgently important. These headaches can have numerous causes and effects.

While there are many migraine headache cures out there, migraine sufferers would do well to focus on prevention. By eliminating common triggers of your migraine headaches, you will find yourself feeling better and having less frequent episodes than ever before. Don’t let migraine headaches ruin your life.

Understanding The Symptoms Of Headaches While Pregnant

We all know how debilitating headaches can be, and being pregnant can be pretty hard work on the body as well, so the last thing most pregnant women need is a combination of the two! Headaches while pregnant can seem like the straw that broke the camels back.

Why Are Headaches While Pregnant Any Worse?
I don’t thing that headaches while pregnant actually are any worse, but pregnant women are very aware of their health. They are also very conscious of all the changes in their bodies, so to add headaches to the changes in their physical, hormonal and emotional states seems to create a worry for them which would barely have been noticed before pregnancy.

What Causes Headaches While Pregnant?
Headaches while pregnant are probably caused by the same thing as when not pregnant. Some people believe that as many as ninety five percent of headaches are a result of dehydration; this too could be the case with headaches while pregnant. Dehydration is very common in pregnant women partly because the body is working so hard and also because the increase size of the uterus puts pressure on the bladder and this discomfort can lead women to accidentally reduce the amount of water they drink and hence cause dehydration and headaches while pregnant.

Treatment Of Headaches While Pregnant.
It is important to be careful about any medication taken during pregnancy, however, a small amount of mild over the counter medication is usually considered OK. However, as with most ailments, and especially when pregnant it is worth learning from having headaches while pregnant and making sure that enough water is drunk on a regular basis and that you are getting enough rest.

Risks Of Headaches While Pregnant.
Headaches can be linked with more serious conditions, but these will usually be accompanied by other symptoms. For your own peace of mind it is advisable to contact your midwife, doctor or health visitor for any headaches while pregnant, they will certainly be ably to advise you, possibly over the telephone if there is any need for concern and they are used to dealing with hormonal women so will fully understand any of your concerns.

Triggers For Headaches While Pregnant.
All women when they discover that they are pregnant should take certain precautions, primarily, contact with chemicals. If you are still working, then when you advise your employers of your pregnancy they should have reviewed the requirements of your positions and the environment in which you work to ensure that they are not putting you or your baby at risk. If you think that chemicals could be the cause of your headache, then it is essential that you immediately contact your doctor or gynaecologist and advise them of your concerns.

Finally, it is always worth remembering that when you are pregnant a lot is happening in your body and you cannot be expected to understand everything which is changing and the effects of these changes on your body. If you have any concerns you should seek advice and do not worry about wasting time as your health and your babies health is the most important thing in your life during this period.

Quick Headache Relief

When confronted with a painful headache, the first impulse is to find the fastest relief possible. A cure for migraine headaches can come in many forms. They attempt to combat the problem and cure the initial cause of the headache. When you are looking for headache relief, it is important to identify what type of headache you have.

Finding a cure for migraine headaches or other types when they do not recur is something you can do with research and patience. However, if your symptoms are happening on a regular basis or are severe enough to interfere with your life, you may want to consult your medical professional immediately. Frequent headaches may be a symptom of a much more severe problem. When looking for a cure for migraine headaches that happen infrequently, there is plenty of great advice to follow.

Cure For Migraine Headaches

Finding a cure for migraine headaches can be complicated and difficult. A visit to your doctor may be in order, especially if the symptoms reoccur. It is difficult to diagnose a migraine headache on your own unless you have encountered them before, and your doctor may be able to offer a more effective cure for migraine headaches with a prescription medication. Misdiagnosing a migraine can be problematic, since similar headaches may be a sign of bigger problems. If your doctor can correctly diagnose the migraine for you, they can help treat it with the proper medication.

The doctor can prescribe a medication to be used as a preventative and cure for migraine headaches. You can take it when you feel a headache coming on. This type of medication will be prescribed if you do not display symptoms of chronic migraines. If your migraines do occur regularly, the doctor may have a preventative plan to reduce the effects and find a cure for migraine headaches once and for all. You can help yourself by paying careful attention to any patterns your headaches have, and eliminating possible triggers from your diet or life.

Tension Headaches

After a cure for migraine headaches, the next most needed solution is a cure for tension headaches. Most people face stressful situations in their life on a regular basis, and this type of headache can result. Tension headaches are caused by stiffening of the muscles in your neck and head, or from the fatigue from spending too much time staring at a computer screen or small book. Stress can also cause the muscle tension which triggers these headaches. They feel like a clamp around your head because the muscles there are contracting. This reduces blood flow to the brain and causes extreme discomfort.

It is much easier to beat a tension headache than to find a cure for migraine headaches. The best way is simple relaxation of your body, mind and eyes. Remove yourself from the stressful situation and get some fresh air. The longer you remain tense, the more severe your headache can become. Medication is not the most effective solution here, as simple relaxation often solves the problem on its own.
