Understanding The Symptoms  Of Headaches While Pregnant

We all know how debilitating headaches can be, and being pregnant can be pretty hard work on the body as well, so the last thing most pregnant women need is a combination of the two!  Headaches while pregnant can seem like the straw that broke the camels back.

Why Are Headaches While Pregnant Any Worse?
I don’t thing that headaches while pregnant actually are any worse, but pregnant women are very aware of their health.  They are also very conscious of all the changes in their bodies, so to add headaches to the changes in their physical, hormonal and emotional states seems to create a worry for them which would barely have been noticed before pregnancy.

What Causes Headaches While Pregnant?
Headaches while pregnant are probably caused by the same thing as when not pregnant.  Some people believe that as many as ninety five percent of headaches are a result of dehydration; this too could be the case with headaches while pregnant.  Dehydration is very common in pregnant women partly because the body is working so hard and also because the increase size of the uterus puts pressure on the bladder and this discomfort can lead women to accidentally reduce the amount of water they drink and hence cause dehydration and headaches while pregnant.

Treatment Of Headaches While Pregnant.
It is important to be careful about any medication taken during pregnancy, however, a small amount of mild over the counter medication is usually considered OK.  However, as with most ailments, and especially when pregnant it is worth learning from having headaches while pregnant and making sure that enough water is drunk on a regular basis and that you are getting enough rest.

Risks Of Headaches While Pregnant.
Headaches can be linked with more serious conditions, but these will usually be accompanied by other symptoms.  For your own peace of mind it is advisable to contact your midwife, doctor or health visitor for any headaches while pregnant, they will certainly be ably to advise you, possibly over the telephone if there is any need for concern and they are used to dealing with hormonal women so will fully understand any of your concerns.

Triggers For Headaches While Pregnant.
All women when they discover that they are pregnant should take certain precautions, primarily, contact with chemicals.  If you are still working, then when you advise your employers of your pregnancy they should have reviewed the requirements of your positions and the environment in which you work to ensure that they are not putting you or your baby at risk.  If you think that chemicals could be the cause of your headache, then it is essential that you immediately contact your doctor or gynaecologist and advise them of your concerns.

Finally, it is always worth remembering that when you are pregnant a lot is happening in your body and you cannot be expected to understand everything which is changing and the effects of these changes on your body.  If you have any concerns you should seek advice and do not worry about wasting time as your health and your babies health is the most important thing in your life during this period.
